FREE AND SAFE IN CHRIST

For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty, only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. Gal 5: 13

Freedom is the unrestricted ability to make decisions and choose our own path. The free will to do whatever we want, however, we want, whenever we want. This freedom that allows for anything is not the freedom we have been afforded in Christ.

Freedom without measured constraint is dangerous for us as believers.

What this guarantee is a surge into the unchartered no man’s land of misdeeds. A territory Christ would not want us to go into. A zone Christ himself did not foray towards. There was a level of prudently calculated rules that guided his steps. He didn’t get himself into the danger zones.

The idea of Jesus setting us free was not for us to do whatever we wanted; He gave us the freedom to do what we are meant to do. He liberated us to walk on a defined path. A path guided by a close walk in relationship with God and for us to ultimately be the kind of persons he has created us to be.

The kind of freedom we have in Christ is spiritual freedom. It is a freedom of the inside. The freedom that denies us to wander off on the outside. A kind of freedom that only the spirit controls.

The spirit dictates the physical what to do per time. This spiritual freedom is the freedom that sin constantly denies us.

Whenever we are in Christ, we are free. It is a sin that enslaves us (John 8: 34). The freedom we have in Christ is exclusive of the sin our bodies crave. It is the freedom from sin.

Naturally, every man is under an inclination to sin. No man is free except if he receives Christ and stays in him. Christ is the basis of our freedom. There is no true freedom outside of Him.

Once Christ has called us into his freedom, we are bound with him. Because He has bought us with a price, we are no longer enslaved by the former slave masters.

We have been transited to be joined with Christ. In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. (Luke 1: 75)

Only the freedom we have in Christ gives an all-assuring, all-conquering victory. The freedom in Christ is only within Christ.

In Christ is where we have all fullness. There is nothing we get from the expeditions outside that will be ours eternally. Everything Christ offers, he does so with eternity in view.

Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Let the Word of Truth always be the guide of our freedom on earth.
