SHOULD CHRISTIANS FEAR DEATH?

Philippians 1:21 (KJV)

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Galatians 2:20 (BSB)

I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

Many humans, both Christians, and non-Christians, are afraid of death. Each time the thought of death flashes through their minds, a surge of panic rushes through. This brief panic is evidence that no one wants to die, or we are afraid of what it will look like, how it will be, and what the aftermath will be.

Uncertainties usually trigger fear. The things we do not know scare us. The questions we cannot provide answers to intimidate us, and because we have a picture of what our afterlife will look like as believers, it is soothing to say God does not intend for us to be afraid of death or afraid of dying.

In Romans 6:23, God assured us of a gift. A gift of life eternal in Christ.

The polar opposite of death is life.

Honestly, we will all die a physical, natural death. It is inevitable for every human that is born. This physical death is only a passage into another reality. In this reality lies eternity, where we can live or die therein. That is where the actual death takes place. That is the death to be afraid of.

Hebrews 9:27 (KJV)

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

If a man is not going to die outside of the physical death that is the exit from this natural body, then, he is truly going to live, albeit, live eternally.

The fear of death is only for the ones without hope. Because actually, death should not be dreaded if you are confident of what is to come next.

For us, there is hope: the kind we are eagerly excited about. Physical death only draws us closer to actualizing this hope of eternal life. For some others, there is zero hope. John 5:24 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (KJV)

The fear of death is slavery. Because it will only linger for as long as we are alive, once this dreadful emotion encapsulates you, there is no freedom from it. It kicks in without notice. It is no respecter of status, position, name, or age.

Jesus has come to deliver us all from the sting of death. He came with an assuring promise of life eternal (John 3:16)

In Jesus, even though a man dies, he will live. Death is not final in Christ – John 11:25-26

When the kingdom's children die on earth, it is precious because it helps transition to life with God in eternity.

The thought of Heaven dissipates the fear of death quickly.

The most considerable consolation for death is the life after it.

For believers, this is the life that God has promised. In Heaven, where we will reign together with Christ, the pain of death, the sting of death is nothing compared to the gain that lies ahead – Philippians 3;20

The thought of keeping company with Jesus should roll away any carpet of death. The spiritual body that will exist alongside Jesus and the saints cannot be killed. Therefore physical death is only temporary pain. The joy that lies afterward is eternal. It is forever.

The only way to assure this life ahead is to prepare for it while we are yet alive. While we remain in our mortal body, the chance is presented to us to insure our life after death. It is done by securing a good placement in eternity which is ONLY guaranteed by our acceptance of the Lord Jesus as our Lord and savior.

Acts 4: 12 -Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (KJV)

For with your heart, you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved. Romans 10:10 (BSB)

With all these in place, there is no reason to fear. We have victory over death; hence, we have no reason to fear – Isaiah 25:8

He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. (KJV)
