WONDERS OF FAITH (Part 8)

Today, let's go a step further in exploring the wonders of faith. Let us consider the definition of faith. What is faith? The definition of faith will in no doubt, shed more light on the operations of faith. There have been various definitions advanced by different authorities and theologians, but I found out that Paul's definition of faith in the eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews is still the best.

The word says, "Now faith is the substance of things hope for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1).

To start with, the first word in this scripture, that is, "now," shows the very nature of faith. Faith is now! I remember I read a book on faith many years ago titled FAITH IS NOW OR NEVER. It means that faith is not in the past (that's history) and not in the future (that's prophecy) but now.

What many of us call faith is not faith but hope. We have mistaken hope for faith. And faith is different from hope.

While faith is now, hope is what we are expecting to receive someday in the future. You will observe that statements such as "I am believing God for such and such, or I hope to get it soon" are very common with many believers.

Such statements as these are not statements of faith but of hope. Faith is NOW!

This is why things like the second coming of the Lord at the rapture are referred to as the hope of the church.

It is said that if a farmer plants maize, and after five days, if he doesn't see any of them above the ground, he should forget about it and plant another maize.

Some of us have believed in God for years, but with no result. Friends, there is no faith in that.

Let's forget about them and ask afresh. I pray for you today that all your yet-to-be-answered prayers will receive immediate attention in Jesus name. Tomorrow, we shall continue from here.

Read and meditate on these scriptures; Mark 2:1-12
