FAITH DIGEST

WONDERS OF FAITH (Part 9)

Yesterday, we were to consider the definition of faith and how it could lead us to a better understanding of its operations, but we could not do as much as we had hoped.

Paul's definition of faith, as stated in the eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews, gives us the best picture of what faith is. It says, "Now, faith is the substance of things hope for, and evidence of things of things not seen."

Yesterday, we dealt with the first word in this scripture, that is, the word "now," that, faith is either now or never. The passage says faith is the "substance of things hope for" and "the evidence of things not seen". These two statements here are saying the same thing.

The first part says faith is the substance or concrete assurance of things hope for. Hope on its own is just a dream until there is concrete assurance or evidence or certainty of it. On the other hand, faith is "the evidence of things not. seen".

"Hope" and "things not seen" must have concrete assurance, evidence, or proof of its realities. So, faith is the title deed of the things not yet seen.

For example, if your brother in the US tells you that he has sent you a car and that the shipment has been made. To you, that is good news, but you need more proof or evidence to convince you that he has made shipments. Usually, there are documents such as the bill of lading and other particulars of the vehicle that should be sent to you while waiting for it. Bill of lading of the awaited vehicle is as good assurance as seeing it in reality. You can brandish the documents in your hand and share your testimony of a gift of a car even when you are yet to see it

If anyone asks you about the car, you can bring out the bill of lading and show it as evidence of the car "not seen." But, suppose there is no evidence to show and your brother just promised you with mere words without proof or evidence or concrete assurance, there is no way you can exercise faith.

In the same way, when you pray about anything, you must seek to know evidence of it from the word of God.

So, you see that the promise of the word of God is the evidence of things not seen. Just as you brandished the bill of lading of a coming car as the evidence or concrete assurance of the car not yet seen, you can also rely on the words of God as the evidence of the things you have asked for in prayers.

Now, if you believe the word of God as concrete evidence of the things asked for, you should not have a problem ACTING or DOING or SAYING it as we have said in the previous episodes on the law of faith. For example, if you pray for your bodily healing. And as you prayed, you anchored your faith on 1Peter 2:4, which says, "by whose stripes ye were healed"

As far as God is concerned, He has sent you the "bill of lading" or evidence of your healing. How then do you apply the law of faith here? The word says, "what things soever you desire when you pray, believe that you (have) receive and ye shall have them" (Mark 11:24).

It means anything you desire in prayer, such as your healing, believe (the evidence in the word of God) that you have received the healing, and you will have it.

The Bible did not say here that if you just ask, you will receive, but it says when you ask, believe the evidence and begin to ACT and DO and CONFESS while you take your eyes away from the symptoms. "Let the weak SAY I am strong " (Joel 3:10).

Read and meditate on these scriptures; Numbers 23:19; Psalms 89:34
